Ho Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum

First off, I want to say hi! This is Rachel (Bergfeld) here today with my very first post as a member of the Design Team! I'm super excited to be joining a team of fantastic creative people to bring you fun projects using some of my very favorite stamps on the planet!
So enough with the sappy stuff, on with the card!
I decided to play along with the current Fan Club challenge for my first card. I'm using a non-holiday stamp in a holiday scene. I chose Yo Ho for this one!
I absolutely love coloring, so stamped out my little scene on a piece of cardstock that was cut to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 (I cut it down to card size after I was finished with my coloring). Believe it or not, but I actually drew in the little bottle of rum and the lights on my tree with a copic multi-liner! Even I'm proud of myself for that one!
Next time I do a big coloring scene like this, I'll take photos along the way to give you a better idea of how I pull a scene together. In all the excitement of making my first design team card, I sort of forgot! Briefly, in order to create a scene, I sketch things in with a very light marker and then gradually build up color. It helps me keep things in perspective as I add layers.
For the sandy beach, I began by adding a full layer of E30 to help mark out my land. I added some E53 to the front section and then faded it into the E30 with the help of E31. when I was sure I liked the blending, I went in with some darker colors to add the shadowing coming from my images. I added small dots in various E markers to help get the look of grains of sand. I also went in with my colorless blender in the lighter area at the back to add some more subtle grains of sand. I finished the beach by adding some dots of white gel pen.
For my ocean, I used B01, BG13, and BG18. I went through and sketched out the shape of my waves (leaving some white card showing for the crests of some of the waves) and then went back in adding dashes of the other colors for depth. I colored over the water again with my B01 to help blend the darker colors out.
For the sky, I used a Y04 in the right corner and then blended it out with Y000 to gradually fade it into the white of the cardstock. All that was left was to finish coloring my images!
To finish up the whole thing, I stamped the Ho Ho Ho from a random set I found in my stash and then I actually hand lettered the rest of the sentiment below it! To keep it straight, I used a ruler to add a very light pencil line. No sense in ruining a card with a crooked sentiment, right? When the multi-liner dried, I went back in and erased the pencil line and you'll never know it was there!
I cut the panel down to fit the front of an A2 card and then used some double sided tape to adhere it to a white card base. It's all ready to mail!
Thanks for joining me on this long-winded post! See you again soon!
