One Layer Watercolor Cards with Students of Magic

Hi, there! It's Lynnea and I have a fun video today using the Students of Magic stamp set from Kindred Stamps to create a trio of watercolored cards! As I'm writing this post the Students of Magic stamp set is sold out, but never fear! It will be back in stock soon! It's just such a popular stamp set! But be sure to head over to the Kindred Stamps website and add your name to the email list so you'll be the first to know when it comes back in stock!

These cards are all one layer, so they're super easy to put through the mail! And I was sure to use neutral colors so they're perfect for all the guys in my life, too!

Let's start with the card that inspired the mini collection of cards! I loved the feather and the owl in the Students of Magic stamp set as well as this sentiment. I LOVE sentiments that mix script and print! I wanted to have the feather coming down from the bottom looking like someone dropped a handful of them from the top - so they're flipping and falling through the air. I used my MISTI to stamp the sentiment and the owl with Versafine Onyx Black ink and used a small acrylic block to stamp all the feathers. I was sure to turn my block so that I would get the "falling" effect of the feathers. Once all the stamping was done I heat embossed the panel with clear powder to help hold in the watercolor. I used my Sakura Koi Pocket Sketch watercolors to add some color to the feathers and the owl.

Of course I had to use the socks and this sock loving little guy! I wanted the same idea - socks falling through the air! I did everything the same as I did with the owl card, except for a little tweaking with the sentiment. I cut it in half! It was a little too long for the layout I had in my head, so I cut the photopolymer right after the "I love you" and stacked it on top of each other. This is perfectly okay to do as long as you cut the photopolymer in between the words and not the part that actually stamps. I again stamped everything with Versafine Onyx Black and heat embossed with clear powder and colored with my Koi watercolors.

My last card is the card I almost didn't make - but it's my favorite! I had meant this video to be a duo of cards, but I was so drawn to this sentiment! I LOVE the mix of fonts and how it's stacked! So pretty! I stamped the sentiment and all the images with Versafine Onyx Black ink and again heat embossed with clear powder. I thought these little flying creatures needed some shimmer and shine, so I swapped my regular watercolors for my Gansai Tambi Starry Colors palette. I used white gold on the wings, a tad bit of red gold at the top of the ball and the main body is yellow gold.

You can see the shine a little bit more in this photo, but really it's so awesome in person! It adds an extra special touch! Check out my video below to see exactly how I made these cards!
